Nerland Agency Receives Top Honor At AIGA Design Show
AIGA Alaska held their annual “The Big One” design competition on November 17, 2012 at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center. Nerland Agency received the “Best of Show” designation for their work with BP Alaska.
For the BP Energy Center’s 10th anniversary celebration, Nerland Agency was challenged to engage the center’s users – nonprofits and community leaders serving those constituencies – in new interactive ways.
The goal was both education and entertainment. The result was two unique-to-Alaska interactive displays offering body motion control experiences.
The first of these Energy Center interactive displays invites visitors to use their hands to select one of 18 videos, created by Nerland, to learn about BP operations in Alaska. With the second display, visitors can use their entire body to play with weather elements set in seasonal Alaska landscapes. Multiple users can interact with these displays, creating an engaging and playful experience for people between meetings – a great way to relax and have some fun before getting down to business.
Professionals from the Lower 48 judged the AIGA Alaska entries. Each entry was critiqued using nationally upheld design metrics and standards. Roland Adams, Nerland Agency Sr. Art Director and AIGA board member: “What sets this award competition apart from others, is that the entries are only judged based on the creative execution. As a designer myself, it’s inspiring to see what other designers in our local community have created in the past year.”
