Labor Accepting Applications for Career Exploration Event for Youth with Disabilities
JUNEAU, Alaska—The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development is partnering with Anchorage United for Youth and other agencies to help match students with disabilities with local employers for a one-day career exploration event on Friday, Feb. 1.
“We need Anchorage employers to mentor students for the one-day event,” Labor Commissioner Dianne Blumer said. “Once students connect with employers, employers are better able to understand the incentives and benefits associated with employing people with disabilities.”
The day begins and ends at the Anchorage Job Center Midtown Room 104 (3301 Eagle Street), with students shadowing mentors in a variety of career fields throughout the day.
The deadline for students to apply is Monday, Nov. 26. Employers have until Monday, Jan. 21 to apply to host and mentor a student. Applications are available online at Jobs.Alaska.Gov/jobfairs/career-day-2013.htm or by calling 907-269-4777.
Career Exploration Event sponsors are Anchorage United for Youth, Anchorage Youth Development Coalition, Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education, Boys and Girls Clubs Alaska and Alaska Job Corps, Nine Star Education and Employment Service and the Anchorage School District.
