Jim Crockett, Bean’s Café
Anchorage, AK – November 29, 2012 – On behalf of the Bean’s Café Board of Directors and staff, Credit Union 1 is saddened to report the passing of Jim Crockett, Executive Director of Bean’s Café. For over 10 years, Jim served as Executive Director, and was one of the founding board members of the organization. Jim was a tireless advocate for the homeless and hungry populations of Anchorage with an unwavering belief in the inherent dignity of every person.
Jim came to Bean’s Café from an accounting position in the private sector. During his time at Bean’s Café, his expertise helped the organization experience growth and sustainability to better serve individuals experiencing hunger in Anchorage. Jim also spearheaded the creation of the Children’s Lunchbox program, which provides access to food for hungry children in both Anchorage and the Matanuska Valley.
Jim’s passing is a tremendous loss to our community, but he leaves an enduring legacy through his years of work improving the quality of life for those experiencing homelessness and hunger.
Bean’s Café, a part of the Anchorage community since February 1979, maintains a center where the hungry and homeless are provided with hot nutritious meals, a warm and safe day shelter, as well as information and referral assistance to health and human service programs. Bean’s Café is open 365 days of the year, ensuring these services are always available to those who need it the most.
