Goat Hunt Season Closes in Prince William Sound
Cordova – Registration permit hunt RG243 for mountain goats in Game Management Unit 6(D) will close at one minute before midnight on November 3, 2012 by emergency order of the
Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Hunt area RG243 includes those southern drainages north of Port Fidalgo and Gravina River, and east of Denson Creek, and west of Cordova Glacier in Unit 6(D).
Cordova area wildlife biologist Dave Crowley said that the population of less than than 100 goats could sustain a harvest of 3 goats. The current harvest is 3 billy goats. Additional take beyond the harvest objective could harm the long-term stability of the population. The closure affects only registration permit hunt RG243 in Unit 6(D). All other mountain goat hunting regulations in the remainder of Game Management Unit 6 are unaffected by this closure.
