Begich to host Veterans Town Hall this Saturday
Sen. Mark Begich will kick off Veterans Day weekend with a town hall meeting for veterans on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Begich Middle School auditorium, 7440 Creekside Center Drive, Anchorage, from 1:45-3 p.m.
As a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Begich wants to hear from veterans about benefits, services and programs to help address issues like access to health care, job placement and training opportunities.
Begich will update local veterans on recent developments in Congress related to veterans benefits and bring their concerns back to the Veterans’ Affairs Committee as Congress enters the “lame duck” session on the federal budget and tax reform.
Begich has long advocated for Alaska veterans. Recent accomplishments include an agreement he brokered between the Veterans Administration and that the Indian Health Service to allow rural veterans to receive care at tribal health facilities and have it reimbursed by the VA rather than having to travel to Anchorage or Seattle. He also helped lower the co-pay amounts for care received through tele-health providers to similarly benefit rural veterans. He is also a member of the Senate Veterans Jobs Caucus.
