authentic 1920 music score performed live. Old Spanish California is the setting in which
Douglas Fairbanks creates the prototype of the modern action‐adventure hero. Slashing

Award winning composer, Jennifer Higdon. With its beautifully original colors and
musical shapes, Higdon’s Piano Concerto is sure to become an Anchorage audience
favorite. The evening closes with Tchaikovsky’s passionate Symphony No. 6 ‐ a complex
texturing of emotion.

Beethoven, Grieg, Dukas and Ravel take you on a magical journey as they artfully paint
their stories with music. The evening opens with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3,
“a miracle of dramatic music as compelling as any symphonic poem in literature.” Be
transported by the adventures of an apprentice who gets in over his head, Peer Gynt’s
legendary travels and the twisting love story of a goatherd and shepherdess.

To Boldly Go is a unique combination of music and science. Your students will
experience:
‐ live orchestral music combined with stunning NASA visuals of our solar system
compiled by Emmy‐nominated astronomer, Dr. Jose Francisco Salgado of the
Adler Planetarium in Chicago
‐ a ride with the Mars Rover, an exploration of Jupiter, Mars and Uranus and
many amazing sights
‐ great film music from famous space‐themed movies, including 2001 Space
Odyssey, ET, Close Encounters and yes, Star Wars
Dr. Salgado will be a featured guest at these concerts to explain the science of our
exploration.
