Sergeant STAR® Re-Enlists with Next IT

U.S. Army renews contract for Intelligent Virtual Assistant technology

SPOKANE, Wash.--()--The U.S. Army has renewed its software development contract with Next IT, a Spokane-based company that specializes in the creation of Intelligent Virtual Assistants through conversational software.

“SGT STAR and ActiveAgent technology helps the Army reach a larger audience and empowers their users, while simultaneously reducing costs”

The US Army – Next IT partnership began in 2006, when they collaborated to create “Ask SGT STAR,” the virtual guide to Army life. Powered by Next IT’s ActiveAgent™ technology, “Ask SGT STAR” engages potential recruits online, answering questions about opportunities available to them should they choose to enlist.

The contract is managed under the Accessions Command, which has seen massive cutbacks in the past year. In keeping this crucial software up to date and servicing their customers, the US Army held an open competition for the renewal services. This renewal speaks volumes about the value that Next IT provides in software support and development. Nakuuruq Solutions was awarded the base year contract with two optional years. Nakuuruq Solutions will provide project management and Next IT will supply expertise in the integration of tailored solutions in the telecommunications and information technology arenas.

“SGT STAR and ActiveAgent technology helps the Army reach a larger audience and empowers their users, while simultaneously reducing costs,” said Cleat Grumbly, Next IT Vice President of Government Solutions. “We are excited about the new contract and are looking forward to our continued work with the Army and Nakuuruq Solutions as we find new and innovative ways to help recruits learn about the benefits of Army life.”

Since introducing “Ask SGT STAR,” the Army has seen a dramatic increase in both the length and the quality of user interactions on goarmy.com. In an effort to further optimize the flow of information, the Accessions Command is using Next IT technology across additional communication channels. “Ask SGT STAR” has gained a presence on Facebook and is now able to receive and respond to questions via mobile channels as well.
