PCL Construction Services, Inc. Donates $10,000 to Food Bank of Alaska
Collective Donation Totaling $140,000 Nationwide
Anchorage, AK (Nov 1, 2011) – – PCL Construction is donating $10,000 in 14 operating cities, totaling $140,000 as part of a collaborative effort by to benefit food bank organizations nationwide.
As a result of PCL’s food bank giving initiative, the donations will go to various non-profit agencies to purchase needed food and resources. In Alaska PCL is donating $2,500 each to Food Banks in Seward and Kodiak with an additional $5,000 going to sponsor the Food Bank’s CANstruction Event during Fur Rendezvous. Last year the event raised almost $11,000 in cash donations and over 30,000 pounds of canned food.
“With the economy causing such hardship for so many families, we all felt that this simple act might help to inspire some others to take similar steps” said Scott Ivany with PCL’s Alaska Operations Group. “We are also leveraging this initiative by encouraging our employees to donate some of their time helping out in the area food banks.”
The Food Bank of Alaska assists over 83,000 individuals a year. Serving as a clearing house for both public and private pantry programs in over 50 locations throughout the State of Alaska, the Food Bank of Alaska distributes approximately 1,000 pounds of canned and perishable food an hour. PCL Construction Services’ contribution will help the Food Bank of Alaska in purchasing over 50,000 pounds of food.
PCL is currently working in Anchorage on the Verizon Mobile Switching Center project. “It feels great to be able to give back to a community that has been so welcoming to us.” said Ivany.
