Murkowski Spends 11-11-11 Honoring Vets, Volunteering

Senator Visits Vietnam Women's Memorial, Helps Build Homes in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Lisa Murkowski today visited the Vietnam Women's Memorial in our nation's capitol to honor the 265,000 women who volunteered alongside their brothers during the Vietnam War.  At the memorial, the Senator heard the stories and memories of those who served during the Vietnam era, and updates from the front lines by those serving in today's armed conflicts.

"I want to thank all our Veterans and those currently serving in the military, who we honor this day for their sacrifice, and also recognize the families who made their service possible," said Murkowski.

Senator Murkowski then joined General Stanley McChrystal and 50 volunteers from Bank of America and Blue Star Families in donating time to help construct four Habitat for Humanity homes in the low-income neighborhood of Ivy City in Northeast Washington, D.C.  Their work was part of the Mission Serve Initiative which asks civilian and military communities across America to come together through service and volunteerism.
