Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau Brings Home the Gold

Organization Nets a Pair of Awards for Convention and Tourism Sales

Anchorage, Alaska – Nov. 10, 2011 – Meetings & Conventions (M&C) magazine has awarded a 2011 Gold Service Award to the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the National Tour Association (NTA) honored the organization with a Gold award in the category “Favorite Hub for Adventure.”

“These awards reflect the hard work of both our tourism development and convention sales staff,” said Julie Saupe, ACVB president and CEO. “With each of these honors, meeting planners and tour operators have recognized us for our high level of service and for the quality of our programs.”

The M&C Gold Service Award is presented annually to convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs) that are dedicated to meeting professionals. CVBs are judged by the magazine’s readers on factors including professionalism of staff, support on hotel and site inspections, guidance on local attractions, liaison with local vendors and services and other aspects that contribute to a successful meeting. This is the 18th year ACVB has captured the Gold Service Award in the last 19 years. In 2005, ACVB was inducted into the M&C Hall of Fame, recognition given for receiving Gold Service Awards for 12 or more years.

The NTA is an association for professionals serving travelers to, from and within North America. Late in the summer NTA tour operators voted for their favorite partners in 12 categories. ACVB won the Gold award in the category “Favorite Hub for Adventure,” splitting the award with the Las Vegas and Greater Phoenix CVBs. The award winners will also be featured in an upcoming edition of Courier, NTA’s official monthly publication.

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (ACVB) mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage while building and diversifying the Anchorage economy. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by lodging facilities. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund, and one-third to service the bond debt and operations of the Anchorage Convention Centers. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
