"Shell Offshore" KTUU Series
Channel 2 KTUU recently aired a two part series highlighting the future of offshore drilling in Alaska. The news segments gave a rare glimpse at the $200 million dollar arctic icebreaker that may soon be Alaska bound and also an overview of the Shell command center in Louisiana that monitors offshore operations. Drilling could commence as early as summer of 2012.

Priority Spotlight
The Alaska Chamber held its Legislative Policy Forum on October 25-26, 2011. Over 90 Chamber members participated and voted to adopt twenty-six positions for 2012.
Each week, we plan to highlight one of those positions so our members have a clear understanding of what our priorities are and what we will be watching closely during the 2012 legislative session. The positions will be published in no particular order but we will indicate if that position is one of our "Top Three" State or Federal priorities.
Support an Alaska Transportation Infrastructure Fund (ATIF)
The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce believes that Alaska's transportation infrastructure is pivotal to the state's economy and supports creation of an Alaska Transportation Infrastructure Fund. Economic vitality requires a robust transportation system - multimodal transportation options covering the length and breadth of the State. Alaska businesses depend on access to markets, supplies and resources. Investment in Alaska's multimodal transportation system will enhance the competitiveness of businesses and economic opportunities for its people. Numerous studies have proven a favorable cost-benefit to transportation investment through time savings, operational savings, and improved safety. The Alaska Chamber encourages the Alaska Legislature and the Governor to create a maintenance and capital improvements funding mechanism for investment in Alaska's land, water, and air transportation systems.

Get Involved: 10ForTroops.org
10forTroops.org was created by Armed Services YMCA of Alaska to raise awareness for how Alaskans can support local military. Their goal is to raise $25,000 in the month of November, to provide critical programs and services for Alaskan troops.
More than 65,000 military members and their families are stationed in Alaska, far away from home and many in remote parts of the state. They serve in the bitter Alaskan cold and dark, and face repeat deployments to dangerous war zones.
Military families who are left behind often endure the stresses associated with operating a single-parent household, in a place that is geographically isolated from family and support networks, while coping with the fear and sadness the absence creates.
The 10 For Troops program asks that you take 10 minutes to learn about the hardships facing troops in Alaska, donate $10, and forward the information along to 10 of your friends or family members.
Start now by taking 10 minutes to learn more at http://www.10fortroops.org.
