Governor Parnell Extends AMFAST
Governor Sean Parnell signed Administrative Order 260, extending the Alaska Military Force Advocacy and Structure Team (AMFAST). The governor also reappointed the team's members.
First created by administrative order in 2009, AMFAST works to provide recommendations to the governor on how best to retain and build on the state's current military force capability. Several notable projects have emerged from the group's recommendations, including funding for the Tanana River bridge, rail transportation near Port Mackenzie, and the Kodiak Launch Complex managed by the Alaska Aerospace Corporation.
"Alaska is home to some of the best military training grounds in the world, and our geo-strategic advantage is second to none," said Governor Parnell. "AMFAST will continue to ensure that Alaska plays a vital role in defending our nation."
Jack Wilbur sits on the AMFAST Advisory Committee as the representative from the Alaska Chamber.
Resource Development Council Conference
The Resource Development Council (RDC) held their annual conference this year on November 16&17 at the Dena'Ina Center in Anchorage. RDC had a record turnout with over 1,000 registered attendees and 70 trade show vendors.
The two-day program included many topics that closely relate to Alaska Chambers' positions and priorities. Presentations included updates on Fisheries, Forestry, Mining, Oil & Gas and Tourism. Governor Sean Parnell also gave an address outlining his recent trip to Europe in which he delivered the 'Alaska is open for business' message to many of our EU friends.
Presentations, video, and additional information about the RDC conference can be found here.
Energy Efficiency Survey
Member company Information Insights is conducting a survey regarding the effort of Alaska businesses relating to energy efficiency.
Please take two minutes out of your busy day to help reduce wasteful energy consumption in Alaska. The survey link below is part of a larger project being conducted to develop an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Outreach and Education plan. Commercial energy users are an important market sector and we want to hear from you. The survey only takes a couple minutes and does not require any specific knowledge. Thank you in advance for helping to move Alaska toward more efficient use of our energy.
Get Involved: 10ForTroops.org
10forTroops.org was created by Armed Services YMCA of Alaska to raise awareness for how Alaskans can support local military. Their goal is to raise $25,000 in the month of November, to provide critical programs and services for Alaskan troops.
More than 65,000 military members and their families are stationed in Alaska, far away from home and many in remote parts of the state. They serve in the bitter Alaskan cold and dark, and face repeat deployments to dangerous war zones.
Military families who are left behind often endure the stresses associated with operating a single-parent household, in a place that is geographically isolated from family and support networks, while coping with the fear and sadness the absence creates.
The 10 For Troops program asks that you take 10 minutes to learn about the hardships facing troops in Alaska, donate $10, and forward the information along to 10 of your friends or family members.
Start now by taking 10 minutes to learn more at http://www.10fortroops.org.
