Wizzard Media Expands its Podcast Apps to Work With Android Phones

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wizzard Media (NYSE Amex: WZE), the world’s leading podcasting network, today announced the availability of their popular Podcast Apps in the Android Marketplace, signaling immediate expansion to support the Android platform. The newly launched Apps, priced on average at $2.49, are companion Apps for top video podcasts, which in the past were only available through iTunes and Apple’s App Store.

“We are very excited to launch the next step in our mobile media monetization efforts for our podcast publishers and we believe Wizzard is very well positioned for the mobile entertainment lifestyle shift currently taking shape”

The Android version of Wizzard’s podcast Apps are compatible with all devices running Android OS 1.6 or higher, including popular phones from Sony, Samsung, Motorola, T-Mobile, LG, HTC and Dell. See a brief video demonstration of the new podcast App here. According to stats from Google, Gartner and Canalys - there are now over 50 million activated Android phones up from just 8.5 million at the end of 2009 - growing at a pace of over 200,000 new activations each day.

Management believes this expansion to the Android platform will increase network downloads and unique audience counts while driving new customers to Wizzard’s podcasting services. Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Marketplace are considered by most to be the two most prominent App stores in the industry.

Wizzard aims to convert the 700 Apps it currently offers through Apple’s App Store to also be available in the Android Marketplace over the next two months, in time for the post Christmas sales jump from the surge in new devices hitting the market. The standard base-price for the Podcast App for Android will be $1.99, with additional features, paid in-App upgrades and ongoing subscription packages offered in the near future. Revenue from downloadable mobile Apps is predicted to surge from $6.8 billion worldwide this year to $29.5 billion by 2013, according to the research firm Gartner Inc.

Among the first of Wizzard’s podcast Apps now live in the Android Marketplace include: YOGAmazing - Yoga Video App, Fastpitch Softball TV, iGod Today with Father Mike (Vatican), Driving Sports TV, Alaska HDTV - Travel Guide, IN-SEAtv, Brini Maxwell, Tiki Bar TV, Bringing Disneyland Home, Shobiz Newsy News, Pod Surf TV, Learn CS with Terry White, Hawaii Surf Session Report, Lynchland - Liam Lynch App, UVTV – Music Video App and Cali Lewis – Tech News Video.
