Global Food of Alaska Seeks Nominations


Nominate Those Deserving Of Recognition

The Global Food Alaska 2011, Recognition of Achievement Award, acknowledges and profiles the efforts of the Alaskan entrepreneur(s) who has persevered to build a sustainable and competitive business in food, beverage or bio products. The awards will recognize leaders who have succeeded or beat the odds – in making commercial success of Alaska’s bounty and made a positive difference. Award winners will be will be recognized for creating a successful business through the application of commitment, dedication, hard work, ingenuity and innovation while meeting Alaska’s challenges of remoteness, geography, weather, technical know how, limited population base and infrastructure.

Completed nomination must be received by March 1st, 2011. Final award winners will be announced and presented at a special awards reception on June 8, 2011 at Global Food Alaska 2011. Nominations for individuals are being accepted in three different categories. Through the nomination process we plan to identify and appropriately recognize individuals and/or companies that are serving as leaders successfully developing Alaska business in food, beverage and bio-related products.

1. Grower/Harvester/Direct-Marketer: An individual, who has demonstrated leadership that grows, harvests or markets Alaska food, beverage or bio products.

2. Manufacturer/Processor: An individual who has demonstrated leadership that processes or manufactures Alaska food, beverage or bio products.

3. Alaska Champion: (Food Service, Restaurant, Distributor, Wholesaler, Broker or Retail partner: An individual that has played a significant role in pulling Alaska food, beverage or bio products into the marketplace (local, national or international). (Examples can be culinary chef’s featuring locally sourced products, commercial buyers sourcing sustainable seafood from Alaska, distributors offering Alaska product lines, restaurants featuring Alaska fare, writers or TV personalities highlighting the best of the best of Alaska.)

Past Award Winners include Bruce Gore, Triad Fisheries and Geoff Larson, Alaskan Brewing Company; Chuck Bundrant, Trident Seafoods, Michael East, Kahiltna Birchworks, Rob George, The Crab Broker, Rob Baer/Mark Witteveen, Alaska Spirit, John Lowrance, Leader Creek Fisheries and Jac Gadwill, KwikPak Fisheries.

This year’s review committee members are Ruby Hollembaek, Chair (Interior Game Ranch), Susannah Morgan (Food Bank of Alaska), Jeff Jones (Alaska Journal of Commerce), Greg Obeso (Lynden International) Lea Klingert, President (Alaska Commercial Fishing and Agriculture Bank) and William Quantick (WCP Solutions).

About Global Food Alaska

A business-to-business event, featuring those within and outside of Alaska, up and down the entire food supply chain. Global Food Alaska is the only conference and business show of its type in Alaska held every other year that is designed, developed and coordinated by those up and down Alaska’s food supply chain.
