Begich Statement on Election Results
U.S. Sen. Mark Begich released the following statement commenting on the results of the 2010 general election:
"I believe voters want their elected officials, both in Alaska and in Washington, D.C., to look beyond political labels and focus on what's important to Alaskans: getting our economy back on track, creating jobs, improving schools, and reducing energy costs. I'm talking to my Senate colleagues this week about doing exactly that and am eager to get back to work when the Senate reconvenes next week.
"I've always said that despite our different political parties, when it comes to Alaska issues, members of Alaska's congressional delegation agree better than 90 percent of the time. It appears Senator Murkowski will indeed make history by winning her re-election through a write-in. I congratulate her and Congressman Young and look forward to continuing to work with them to build an Alaska pipeline and open more of our resources to development.
"I also commend Scott McAdams for turning one of Alaska's longest shots into a credible showing. Scott stood tall to earn the respect of Alaskans for his civility, his fearless energy and his ability to inspire Alaskans across the state."
