Wells Fargo Alaska Team Members Raise $400,000 for Nonprofits
Team completes record September fundraising campaign, 35 percent increase over 2008 [Anchorage, Nov. 2, 2009] – Wells Fargo team members from Barrow to Ketchikan donated a record $206,000 during the company’s annual Alaska Community Support/United Way fundraising campaign in September. The $206,000 donated by Wells Fargo team members in Alaska is the highest total ever and a 35 percent increase over last year. Wells Fargo contributed an additional $198,000 for a total investment of $404,000 in nonprofit organizations throughout the state. “This year, our communities need our support more than ever, and our team members responded by exceeding our fundraising goal and contributing $53,000 more than last year,” said Richard Strutz, Wells Fargo regional president for Alaska. “The results of this campaign demonstrate our enduring commitment to help Alaskans in need by investing in the communities where we live and work.” Sixty-three team members made leadership-level gifts of $1,000 or more, totaling more than $130,000 and representing 65 percent of team member contribution dollars. All Wells Fargo team member donations directed to eligible nonprofit accredited schools are matched dollar for dollar from $25 to $6,500 per team member per year by the Wells Fargo Educational Matching Gift Program. Wells Fargo team members raised funds for local United Way agencies and other charities through silent auctions, casual days, luncheons and other activities. Team members also volunteered with organizations such as The Salvation Army and AWARE women’s shelter in Juneau during the United Way’s “Day of Caring”. From now through Dec. 31, 2009, Wells Fargo customers have the option of donating up to $250 to the United Way at 105 Wells Fargo ATMs in 25 communities throughout Alaska. To make a donation at a Wells Fargo ATM, customers select the “Donate to Charity” option, the United Way branch of their choice, the dollar amount of the contribution (up to $249.99) and the account from which to transfer funds.
