Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) will sponsor a homecoming ceremony for a sacred Chilkat robe this week that was donated to the institute by a Seattle couple at the urging of their teenage daughter.
The Alutiiq Museum has hired Christina Thompson as its Events Specialist. Thompson will coordinate and advertise the museum’s events, working in collaboration with staff to host both recurring museum programs and special initiatives. She is currently organizing Alutiiq Culture Fest, a community celebration to be held in conjunction with the museum’s annual meeting on Friday, September 8th. This event will include free fry bread, a headdress pageant, and an exhibit preview. Thompson will also facilitate the museum’s fall lecture series, Thursday evening presentations by local culture bearers and scientists beginning August 24th. The eight-week series is sponsored by the City of Kodiak.

AK House Movement (AKHM) will debut its first annual summer series of their Hous’n for the Homeless event at the Anchorage Museum. This event will bring together four local Alaska DJ’s as well as 3 LA DJ’s who have partnered together to help with each other’s communities in regards to the homelessness crisis. With many residents in these cities asking what they can do to help, AKHM with the help of True House LA came up with a model called Hous’n for the Homeless.
