Eight crew members, including the boat’s Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Eric Cole, and Chief of the Boat, Master Chief Machinist’s Mate (Auxiliary) Christopher Yacur, traveled to Anchorage, the first time in more than a decade the crew has visited their namesake state.
JUNEAU, AK—Alaskan Brewing opened an expanded tasting room in a grand opening celebration that also marked the 30th anniversary of one of its most renowned beers, Smoked Porter. The newly renovated space is part of the brewery’s expansion in a newly-acquired building on Commercial Boulevard in Juneau, part of its Lemon Creek brewing and tasting room facility.

Visit Anchorage announced the following economic impact of meetings and conventions booked within the Municipality of Anchorage for October 2018, the largest of which is the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Annual Convention. This is the second year in a row the city has won the bid to host the meeting, the largest of the month. The First Alaskans Institute Elders & Youth Conference precedes the larger AFN gathering.
At the recommendation of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, the Alaska Zoo is welcoming a new polar bear from the Denver Zoo this month. The Alaska Zoo will care for Cranbeary, a sixteen-year-old female, with the goal of eventually pairing her with Lyutyik, the Alaska Zoo’s male polar bear.
