Thanking Our Military At The Armed Services Combat Fishing Tournament

“In just a few short years the Armed Services Combat Fishing Tournament has garnered huge success and notoriety and is now considered the largest military appreciation fishing tournament in the United States.”

On May 22, 2014, the City of Seward Alaska will become the site of the largest military appreciation fishing tournament in the United States. With the help of donors, volunteers, event organizers, and the Seward Fishing Charter Fleet, the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska sends approximately 200 young heroes deep sea fishing. This amazing experience includes a bus ride to and from the event, a day of fishing, processing of their fish, a banquet, and prizes for each and every service member. This tournament is dedicated to thanking junior enlisted service members from all branches of the United States Armed Forces, by providing them with a unique Alaskan experience that may otherwise be out of their reach.

The Annual Armed Forces Combat Fishing Tournament was created by Bob Candopoulos, owner of Saltwater Safari, and Keith Manternach, owner of Specialty Truck and Auto, to give thanks to the brave young men and women of the United States Armed Services who have sacrificed so much to serve our nation with honor and courage. Partnering with the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska, with the support of generous Alaskans, approximately 1,500 service members have gone “combat fishing” since the tournament’s inception.

Tournament Facts:

“Since its inception in 2007, approximately 1,500 fisherman form all branches of military service have participated in the tournament.

“For the 2014 Combat Fishing Tournament, 23 boats from 17 charter services will donate their time, equipment, and expertise to help thank approximately 200 junior enlisted service members.
