Weekly Coal Production Report: May 09, 2013

The Weekly Coal Production Report has been updated for the week ended

May 04, 2013 and month ended April 2013.   

For the week ended May 04:

•    U.S. coal production totaled approximately 18.5 million short tons (mmst)

•    This production estimate is 3.5 percent higher than last week's estimate and

      2.1 percent higher than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2012

•    Coal production east of the Mississippi River totaled 8.0 mmst

•    Coal production west of the Mississippi River totaled 10.5 mmst

•    U.S. year-to-date coal production totaled 331.2 mmst, 7.1 percent lower than the

      comparable year-to-date coal production in 2012

For the month ended April 2013:

•    U.S. coal production totaled approximately 78.7 mmst

•    This production estimate is 1.4 percent higher than the same month in 2012

•    Coal production east of the Mississippi River totaled 35.6 mmst

•    Coal production west of the Mississippi River totaled 43.1 mmst
