Walgreens Celebrates Grand Opening of First Eagle River Store on Sunday, June 2
Store showcases community pharmacy transformation and welcomes community with donation to local armed services organization, Pulitzer-nominated author book signing and giveaways
DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) (Nasdaq: WAG)) will celebrate the grand opening of its newest Well Experience store, located at Old Glenn Highway and Eagle River Loop Road in Eagle River, Alaska, from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 2. The store showcases a unique pharmacy format that provides comprehensive care such as health tests and immunizations.
In addition to the expanded services offered inside the store, the location will have heated sidewalks, heated parking spaces for people with disabilities and a heated drive-thru for the pharmacy to serve customers.
“We’re taking another step toward our goal of having a full network of drugstores to serve residents and military personnel of Anchorage and its surrounding communities,” said Bruce Philipp, Walgreens district manager for Alaska. “With features like heated sidewalks and parking spaces, we designed the location to specifically fit the needs of the Eagle River residents and we look forward to becoming the Eagle River area’s number one choice for health and daily living.”
Many local Eagle River residents, including Armed Services YMCA Alaska executive director Mari Jo Imig, are expected to join the community in the grand opening celebration. Walgreens will present a contribution of $5,000 to the Armed Services YMCA Alaska at noon.
“With one in five Eagle River residents currently in the military, this organization fits perfectly with Walgreens mission to help people get, stay and live well by providing quality pharmacy, health and wellness services that are accessible and affordable,” Philipp said. “During our grand opening celebration week, we are increasing the Walgreens military family discount to 25 percent from 15 percent from June 2 until June 8 as a token of our appreciation for these men and women who serve our country. We encourage all members of the military to come to our store on June 2 to visit the military VIP tent and take part in our grand opening event.”
The grand opening celebration will begin Sunday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon. The festivities will continue with prize giveaways, face painting and balloon animals for children, vendors offering free product samples and demonstrations. Participating local vendors include Indian Valley Meats providing free reindeer sausage dogs and Coke, Pepsi and 7up will be providing free samples from a selection of their products. In the afternoon, a trio of children performers from the Alaska Youth Symphony will be playing upbeat jazz and instrumental music. Chugiak High School JROTC will present the colors.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet Pulitzer-nominated Eowyn Ivey, author of “The Snow Child,” at a book signing from noon until 2 p.m. Magic 98.9 will broadcast live at the event.
The store’s expanded features include:
- An enhanced, state-of-the-art pharmacy designed to encourage greater interaction between pharmacists and patients. The pharmacy also features an “Ask Your Pharmacist” desk, a consultation room and Express Rx kiosks for swift checkout. A private consultation room, located near the pharmacist’s desk, provides a customized environment for services such as immunizations, blood pressure testing, blood glucose test and self-injectables.
- Specific to the Eagle River location, more than 40 percent of product carried in the location is from local vendors.
The store’s hours of operation will be 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and the pharmacy’s hours of operation will be 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
