Secretary Jewell, Acting Assistant Secretary Beaudreau and Director Watson Meet with Industry at the Offshore Technology Conference
HOUSTON - Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, Acting Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management & BOEM Director Tommy Beaudreau and BSEE Director Jim Watson attended the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas today. The three spent the day meeting with energy industry executives, touring the exhibition floor, speaking with offshore oil and gas industry stakeholders and viewing firsthand the current and developing technologies used for offshore exploration and production. Following the exhibition hall tour, they met with reporters to discuss the importance of continued research and development of new technologies to improve offshore safety.
Director Watson will deliver a keynote speech on Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) and collaboration with the Coast Guard at the conference's topical luncheon at 12:15 p.m. Thursday. He will be joined by Coast Guard Rear Admiral Joseph Servidio.
The trip to OTC builds upon Secretary Jewell and Director Watson's visit last week to the Gulf of Mexico where they toured an offshore drilling rig and a production platform with a BSEE inspector. The Offshore Technology Conference attracts more than 80,000 attendees each year from more than 110 countries. The conference focuses on the latest trends and technologies for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection.
