Krista Phillips, AIA NCARB, a Principal with RIM Architects, LLC, was one of three women honored by the National Women in Construction (NAWIC) Alaska Chapter on March 6, 2013, at the Constructive Women Awards Dinner in Anchorage. Krista was honored by her peers for her longevity in, mentorship within, and overall dedication to the design and construction industry. The Constructive Awards Dinner was part of NAWIC’s “Women in Construction Week”, where the organization highlights women who are a visible part of the industry. Krista joined RIM Architects, LLC in early 2005 and became a Principal of the firm in 2008. She has over 21 years of experience in architecture, bringing her expertise and creative design strategy to a broad array of projects, emphasizing the relevance of quality design for all communities. In her leadership role at RIM, Krista is responsible for the hiring and talent management of RIM’s Alaska architectural staff, as well as assisting other RIM offices with recruiting and talent management. Her professional experience includes practice in a wide variety of firm settings within the United States, Europe and Australia. She holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kentucky.
Krista regularly mentors and contributes to the next generation through a variety of focused outreach efforts: she served as Alaska’s State Intern Development Program Coordinator for five years, reviving a languished professional development advocacy program statewide through proactive communication and educational outreach with all Alaska intern architects. Krista’s passion for architectural education is evident in her service as a practitioner representative since 2005 for the National Architectural Accreditation Board. She now serves in a Chair role and leads annual accreditation visits to architecture schools on behalf of the NAAB. She locally serves on UAA’s Architecture and Engineering Technology Advisory Committee, an advisory “think tank” of industry leaders in the design and construction field, providing strategic input to the academic program. Krista also currently serves on thread’s Board of Directors, advocating for quality and accessible child care for all families.
