Mat-Su burn permits suspended due to red flag warning
(Palmer, AK) – The Alaska Division of Forestry suspended burn permits today for the Matanuska and Susitna valleys due to the fire danger posed by dry weather conditions.
The Alaska Weather Service issued a red flag warning this morning for the Matanuska and Susitna valleys due to low humidity of 15 to 20 percent. The warning is in effect from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Burn permits will be suspended until further notice.
All burn piles and burn barrels need to be put out. The use of campfires, warming or cooking fires are still permissible, but are strongly discouraged. If lighting a campfire, warming or cooking fire, do not leave it unattended and make sure it is dead before you leave it, using water and a shovel.
