Flags Lowered in Honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day

May 14, 2013, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, May 15 in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day and Law Enforcement Memorial Week.

“Alaska’s law enforcement officers are brave men and women who report for duty knowing full well the dangers they face and the sacrifices they may be called upon to make,” Governor Parnell said. “The duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices that face law enforcement officers and their families on a daily basis earn them the respect, admiration, and gratitude of the people they serve and protect.”

President Barack Obama issued a proclamation establishing May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. U.S. flags should also be lowered in accordance with the president’s proclamation. A copy of the proclamation is available here:
