U.S. Senator Mark Begich made the following statement about his meeting today with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary nominee and current mayor of Charlotte, N.C., Anthony Foxx:
“Mayor Foxx has first-hand experience implementing DOT projects at the local level and this experience could lead to real reform in the way that DOT does business. Since 2013 is Alaska’s Aviation Centennial, I used our meeting as an opportunity to explain Alaska’s history as the testing ground for the innovations behind the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NEXTGEN air traffic control systems. I reminded him about the value of Alaska’s expansive airspace as an ideal as place for unmanned aircraft system (UAS) pilot projects.”
