Kenai gas facility will hold grand opening Thursday, May 31st
Alaska's first third-party natural gas storage facility has been completed early and under budget. Representatives of SEMCO Energy, MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI) and First Alaska Capital Partners, the owners of CINGSA, will commission the facility, which is already being used to store gas for use during peak demand times next winter.
CINGSA is designed to store up to 11 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working gas in an underground storage reservoir.
The facilities are now complete. This includes five injection/withdrawal wells, a compressor station that provides 5,000 horsepower of compression, gas dehydration and measurement facilities and a pipeline interconnect.
