Governor Orders Flags Lowered in Honor of Police Officers
Governor Sean Parnell ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, May 15 in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day and Law Enforcement Memorial Week.
“The duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices that face law enforcement officers on a daily basis earn them the respect, admiration, and gratitude of the people they serve and protect,” Governor Parnell said. “Sandy and I encourage all Alaskans to recognize the courageous sacrifices made by these individuals and their families.”
President Barack Obama issued a proclamation establishing May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day. U.S. flags should also be lowered in accordance with the president’s proclamation. A copy of the proclamation is available here:
