Governor Appoints Shelley Hughes to District 13 House Seat
May 1, 2012, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today appointed Shelley Hughes to fill the District 13 House seat that was held by the late Representative Carl Gatto.
“Shelley Hughes will be a strong voice for District 13,” Governor Parnell said. “Her experience, leadership skills and community involvement have prepared her well to carry on the work of Representative Gatto.”
Hughes, a 22 year resident of District 13, served as a legislative aide for Representative Gatto from 2003 – 2005. She also worked as the government affairs director for Alaska Primary Care Association from 2005 – 2011. Hughes is affiliated with many organizations including the Alaska Outdoor Council, National Rifle Association, Alaska State Fair and Resource Development Council. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Alaska in 2002.
Governor Parnell expressed his appreciation for the many qualified applicants who put their names forward in the interest of serving the State of Alaska and the constituents of House District 13.
Hughes must be confirmed by a majority of House Republicans.
