Rep. Young Presents Sitka with U.S. Coast Guard ProclamationWashington, DC - Congressman for All Alaska Don Young presented Sitka with the U.S. Coast Guard Commandant's Proclamation recognizing Sitka as "A Coast Guard City." The Coast Guard City program recognizes cities that have made special efforts to accommodate Coast Guard members and their families. Sitka's formal request describing their relationship with the Coast Guard was approved last November by U.S. Coast Guard Commandment Robert Papp and was followed by a 90-day Congressional notification period.
"I am honored to have been able to present the community of Sitka with such a well deserved proclamation," said Rep. Young. "The Coast Guard plays a vital role in Alaska and the State of Alaska is grateful for what they do day in and day out. This proclamation says a lot about the community of Sitka and the character of those who live there. Whether it is fundraising programs for Coast Guard families or the assistance they provide in times of tragedy, Sitka has shown the hospitality and generosity that makes all of Alaska proud."
Sitka is the 12th city to be recognized as "A Coast Guard City" by the U.S. Coast Guard joining Kodiak as the second Alaskan city to be recognized.
