Parnell Urges Governors to Help Shape National Energy Policy
May 17, 2011, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell sent a letter today urging the nation’s governors to join with Alaska in taking specific steps to increase domestic energy production with available resources in their states. Last week, the governor submitted draft legislation to Alaska’s congressional delegation to help reach the state’s goal of one million barrels of oil a day through the Trans Alaska Pipeline System within a decade.
Governor Parnell requested that all 49 governors join him in a collective effort to shape national energy policy through the Congress to achieve more domestic oil production rather than continuing the nation’s increasing reliance on foreign oil.
“The collective impact of each state developing its own bold and specific goal for increased energy production will be significant,” the governor wrote. “While my goal is to increase Alaskan oil production, which would benefit our state and the nation, I believe it is a national security imperative that the United States make increased domestic energy production a key objective.”
