Governor Orders Flags Lowered in Honor of Police Officers

May 13, 2011, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, May 15 in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week.

“Police officers keep our communities and neighborhoods safe on a daily basis,” Governor Parnell said. “Sandy and I are proud to join Americans nationwide in honoring their bravery and dedication. Take a moment this week to thank a police officer for his or her service to your community.”

President Barack Obama issued a proclamation establishing May 15, 2011, as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 15 through May 21, 2011, as Police Week. U.S. flags should also be lowered in accordance with the president’s proclamation.

Flags should be returned to full-staff on Monday, May 16
