Southcentral Foundation Hosts Red Carpet Premiere of Youth Video Contest

(Anchorage, AK) – The Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Denaa Yeets’ suicide prevention program is hosting a red carpet premiere this Saturday, May 8, at the Alaska Native Heritage Center! Alaska Native youth ages 10-24 have been mentoring under video professionals to create 30-second public service announcements addressing suicide prevention.

The program includes an Alaska Native dance group and storytelling by acclaimed Native storyteller Jack Dalton. The PSAs will be shown for youth, family and friends, and the winning video will be run on statewide television this summer.

SCF is committed to reducing the incidence of suicide in Alaska, and has multiple programs addressing this issue. The youth video contest is part of a larger youth suicide prevention initiative funded by a three-year Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant.

Established in 1982, SCF’s mission is to work together with the Native Community to achieve wellness through health and related services. The nonprofit health care affiliate of Cook Inlet Region, Inc., SCF has grown in its 28 years, from a single dental clinic to an internationally recognized, award-winning health care organization that employs more than 1,400 people and administers a budget of more than $181 million annually to manage more than 60 health care programs and services.
