City Officials Host Grand Re-Opening of Eagle River Recycling Site
As a central component of the Municipality's recycling program, the recycling drop-off site
at the Anchorage Regional Landfill in Eagle River has been improved and expanded to
accept more materials.
Mayor Dan Sullivan will join Solid Waste Services (SWS) and other community members
for a grand re-opening ceremony for the newly expanded and improved recycling drop-off
site at 2 p.m. on Thurs., May 13, at the Anchorage Regional Landfill (at the Hiland Road
exit of the Glenn Highway in Eagle River).
The new site allows SWS to expand the materials collected to include plastic bottles and
jugs, as well as cardboard, newspaper, mixed paper and aluminum cans. The drop-off
area also has been relocated within the landfill area to ease traffic congestion.
The Solid Waste Services disposal utility operates the Girdwood and Central Transfer
Stations as well as the Anchorage Regional Landfill. The recycling program is funded
through a $3/ton surcharge on waste disposed at SWS facilities.
