CH2M HILL Wins School Business Partnerships STAR Award

At the annual STAR Awards luncheon held May 3, CH2M HILL was honored with an
Anchorage School Business Partnerships (SBP) STAR Award. Lake Otis
Elementary School nominated CH2M HILL for their outstanding partnership in
their school through the SBP program.

Although the partnership is relatively new, more than 40 CH2M HILL employees
are already involved and all 440 students and their families benefit from
the relationship. It all started when employees asked if they could adopt
Lake Otis families during the holidays. They gathered boxes of gifts for
both children and adults in need, and they also brought each family a meal:
either a turkey dinner with all the trimmings or a large breakfast.
Employees helped deliver the packages, where they were greeted with genuine
gratitude and appreciation.

The generosity does not stop there. Throughout the year, CH2M HILL holds
coat and clothing drives, volunteer as science fair judges, engage with
students, collect bikes and helmets for students and coordinate Family
Science Nights.

³Lake Otis is a better place because of the support and thoughtfulness of
CH2M HILL,² said Jill Hess, Lake Otis Family School Services Coordinator.

The School Business Partnership Program began eighteen years ago, in 1991.
The STAR award was initiated in 1996 to recognize an outstanding
partnership. Today there are more than 540 partnerships, impacting 48,440
students, 900 school staff and more than 1,000 business people.

All STAR award winners must meet the following criteria: Enthusiastic
support of SBP and the school or schools with whom the nominee is partnered,
commitment to educational enhancement for our youth, excellence of
activities or program, dedication to the continuation and success of the
program, participation on a regular, dependable basis and willingness to be
flexible and innovative in supporting and assuring success.

The goals of the School Business Partnership is to continue to develop
quality partnerships for the benefit of all Anchorage School District
students and staff; to foster positive working relationships with
businesses; to assist in employability and work force development; to
continue building bridges of understanding between educational institution
and the community, leading to better citizens and better employees.

CH2M HILL is an employee-owned firm with a 40-year history in Alaska. It is
listed as one of Fortune magazine¹s best places to work and most admired
companies in America.
