Anchorage Recognized Nationally as 'Tree City USA'

Mayor Dan Sullivan and the State Division of Forestry will receive the
distinguished Tree City, USA award at Valley of the Moon Park, at 11:30
a.m. on Mon., May 17 (Arbor Day).

The Municipality of Anchorage is receiving national recognition by being
named a Tree City, USA on May 17 by the National Arbor Day Foundation
in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association
of State Foresters. The Tree City, USA program recognizes cities and
towns that have provided an outstanding example for other communities
by taking care of the urban forest resource.

Representatives from several different organizations, including the
Anchorage School District, Mears Middle School, the Dept. of Natural
Resources, United States Forest Service and Alaska Fish & Wildlife
Service, also will be present to acknowledge their respective group's role
in securing the award and partnering with the Municipality on natural
resource projects.
