Governor’s Veterans Bill Passes Senate
March 10, 2014, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today commended the Alaska Senate for passing Senate Bill 145, the governor’s legislation to increase opportunities for Alaska’s veterans. In addition to strengthening veterans’ job opportunities, the bill also enacts the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax (HEART) Act, ensuring families of fallen soldiers receive full survivor benefits as they apply to the state PERS, TRS and JRS retirement plans.
“I applaud the Senate for passing Senate Bill 145, legislation that is crucially important for Alaska’s veterans, military members and their families,” Governor Parnell said. “With more than 74,000 veterans and some 25,000 active military members calling Alaska home, we must ensure they have the resources they need and deserve.”
SB 145 now heads to the Alaska House of Representatives.
