Governor Parnell Signs Legislation Extending ARDORs
March 25, 2014, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell signed House Bill 71 today, legislation extending Alaska Regional Development Organizations, or ARDORs.
“Across our state, Regional Development Organizations are creating economic opportunities for Alaskans and our local communities,” Governor Parnell said. “The foundation of Alaska’s economy depends on the strength of our small businesses, and this legislation will empower ARDORs to continue the work they do to promote economic development. I commend Representative Hughes and all 12 of the organizations for their hard work in passing HB 71.”
HB 71, sponsored by Representative Shelly Hughes, extends the authorization of the ARDORs program, enabling local officials and businesses to pool their limited resources, work together on economic development projects, develop public and private partnerships, and provide technical assistance. There are 12 ARDORs across Alaska that focus on improving the economic health of their regions.
The governor was joined by Representative Hughes, Jason Hoke with the Copper Valley Development Association, Shelly Wright with Southeast Conference, Carl Berger with the Lower Kuskokwim Economic Development Council, and Sue Cogswell with the Prince William Sound Economic Development District.
