UAS Sitka reminds people to Pick.Click.Give. with their PFDs

SITKA, Alaska, March 4, 2013 – As the deadline approaches for Alaskans to complete their Permanent Fund Dividend applications, the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus reminds people to choose it for one of their Pick.Click.Give. donations.

The UAS Sitka Campus is one of the many Sitka-based non-profit organizations listed with the Pick.Click.Give. program, where Alaskans can give donations of $25 or more to help local causes they care about. The Pick.Click.Give. program has grown each year since it was launched in 2009, and in 2012 more than 23,000 Alaskans donated $2.2 million to local and statewide non-profit organizations.

Why give to the UAS Sitka Campus? The University of Alaska is important to Alaska’s future economic development. Through partnerships with business and industry, UAS is able to focus its highest priority initiatives in response to Southeast Alaska’s employment and job training needs. Statistics show that the more education an individual receives, the less money the government will spend on welfare, unemployment, child support enforcement, incarceration, health care and other social services. Furthermore, the more likely that person is to vote, be active in their community, and contribute to charities.

Contributions received through the Pick.Click.Give. program are restricted by the campus you choose and are automatically deposited into that campus’ General Support Fund, where they are used for the areas of greatest need for students as determined by the Campus Director.

Alaskans have until March 31 to apply for their 2013 Permanent Fund Dividend, and they can apply by going to www.pfd.state.ak.us/. Alaskans have until Aug. 31 to finalize their Pick.Click.Give. donation selections, so they can go back to add a donation to an already submitted PFD application.
