The Alaska Community Foundation Acquires Four New Board Members
The Alaska Community Foundation announces that four new individuals have joined their statewide Board of Directors –Penny Pedersen, Kate Slyker, Andy Teuber, and Bill Sheffield.
In Ketchikan, Penny Pedersen is the Executive Director for PeaceHealth Medical Center. Prior to joining PeaceHealth as Executive Director, Penny served on the PeaceHealth board, as well as many other boards for Alaska nonprofits. Previously, Penny worked with a small information management consulting firm for non-profit organizations working with clients such as art agencies, foundations, and membership organizations. Through this work, Penny obtained experience working on donor database management and design, grant tracking, fund accounting, and software training. Penny is a mother of three, and her husband is a family physician at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center.
In Anchorage, Kate Slyker is the Executive Vice President of Client Services with the Nerland Agency, a full-service advertising agency located in Anchorage. She received her BS in marketing and English from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, and her diverse professional marketing experience includes work in the fields of telecom, seafood, transportation, nonprofit and Alaska Native organizations. Kate has a deep level of commitment to the Anchorage community, currently Chair Elect of Covenant House Alaska board, and just recently completed her board terms with YWCA of Anchorage, Catholic Social Services and the Alaska Chapter of the American Marketing Association.
In Kodiak, Andy Teuber serves as the President and Chairman of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), a statewide non‐profit organization established to provide tertiary care to Alaska’s 138,000 Alaska Natives and American Indians through its operation of the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) a 150 bed hospital and Alaska’s only level II trauma center. Andy also serves as the CEO and President of the Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA), a primary care and social service organization in Kodiak. He holds an MBA from the University of Washington. He and his family, including each of his three children are lifelong Alaska residents.
In Anchorage, Bill Sheffield has been a leader in business, government and public policy for most of the 56 years he has lived in Alaska. He served as Governor of the State of Alaska from 1982 to 1986 following a business career in which he built a company that became one of the largest private employers in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Since leaving office, Governor Sheffield has taken seats on several private and nonprofit boards, served as an economic development consultant specializing in natural resource development and recently retired as the Director of the Port of Anchorage. Sheffield is the retired President and CEO of the Alaska Railroad Corporation and now serves as the Vice Chairman of its Board. In recognition of his service, the Alaska Railroad Depot at the Ted Stevens International Airport was named after Governor Sheffield in 1999.
