Senator Gardner Releases Request for Information
JUNEAU – Senator Berta Gardner (D-Anchorage) released a letter today calling for Governor Parnell to provide legislators with detailed information on capital expenditure credits under ACES. In a recent address in Fairbanks, Governor Parnell outlined a runway paving project in the Kuparuk oil field as a project unrelated to oil production. Recently Department of Natural Resources Deputy Commissioner Balash provided a “dining hall” as another example of industry expenditures Alaska is paying for through ACES capital expenditure credits that are not facilitating increased production.
“If the Governor and his administration can provide the public with specific projects that display deficiencies in the ACES capital expenditure credits, his administration should release similar information on all capital expenditure credits,” stated Senator Gardner.
The letter, signed by three other caucus members, also requested expedited information concerning the inability of the Department of Revenue to complete an audit under ACES.
“Despite having received substantially increased resources over the previous five years to conduct audits, not a single audit has been completed. Expecting policy makers to support major tax changes without first having access to all relevant financial information is asking us to abandon our fiduciary responsibilities to our constituents and the State of Alaska,” said Senator Gardner
