Rep. Young Statement On Dept. of Interior's King Cove Road Announcement 3/21/13

Rep. Young Statement On Dept. of Interior's King Cove Road Announcement

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young released the following statement today regarding the Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar’s decision to review the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the proposed land exchange and road corridor through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge:

“While today’s announcement is still less than the people of King Cove deserve, it is prudent for the Department of Interior to re-open the EIS process.  The Department of Interior’s responsibility to the health and well-being of the people of King Cove must be taken into consideration," Rep. Young said.  "I implore the Secretary of the Interior to take a hard look at the facts, and listen to the community of King Cove’s valid concerns.”

“The fight is long from over, but I want to thank Senator Murkowski for her tireless work on this issue.  I will continue to work with her and all parties to resolve this issue once and for all. I continue to believe that the safety and well-being of the residents of King Cove are being held hostage by outside environmental groups that value weeds and waterfowl over human life.”
