Jim Crockett to be Honored with the 2013 Heart of Anchorage Award
Anchorage – The Anchorage Downtown Partnership, a non-profit that advocates for downtown businesses, will honor Jim Crockett with the 2013 Heart of Anchorage Award at their annual Heart of Anchorage Awards Ceremony. Bean’s Café is a community kitchen in Anchorage that feeds those in need. Jim Crockett served Bean’s Café in his role as executive director for 11 years before his death in November of 2012. According to the Anchorage Downtown Partnership website, the ceremony credits the hardworking individuals who work within the Downtown Improvement District, a 113-square block that stretches from Gambell to L Street and 9th to 1st Avenue.
Christopher Schutte, Executive Director for the Anchorage Downtown Partnership describes the Heart of Anchorage Award as “the pinnacle award given at our annual Heart of Anchorage Awards Ceremony. This award, unlike other awards where nominees come from the community and winners are selected by a committee of downtown peers, is a chance for ADP to single out an individual who has made such a profound impact on our community that he, or she, deserves their own recognition. Past participants include people like former Mayor George Sullivan, Jim Bowles, Zak Kaercher and many other individuals without whom downtown (and the rest of the city) would not be what it is today.”
The ceremony will take place on March 30 in the ConocoPhillips Atrium (700 G Street) from 5 to 7pm.
