Democratic Legislative Leaders Applaud Senator Begich’s Remarks to Legislature
Senator’s focus on education, Arctic and results well received
JUNEAU – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) and House Democratic Leader Beth Kerttula (D-Juneau) released the following statements following U.S. Senator Mark Begich’s address to the Alaska Legislature.
From Senator Ellis:
“I applaud Senator Begich’s commitment to seeing Alaskans get the maximum benefit from development of our natural resources. From his determination to empower Arctic oil production to his continued advocacy for the crucial Law of the Sea treaty—which would expand Alaska’s resource development jurisdiction with an area double the size of California—Sen. Begich has been a champion for Alaskan self-determination.”
From Representative Kerttula:
“Senator Begich always takes a realistic and ‘let’s get the work done’ approach. He’s spot-on when he says we must make a commitment to funding our public schools. We cannot continue to starve our schools and expect better results. I thank him for standing up for our public schools and for his efforts to invest in innovation and make early education more accessible nation-wide. I also appreciate his reminder that we must be both strong and strategic when dealing with the federal government. Alaska needs a voice, but most important, we need results.”
