"Choose Respect" March to end Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
March 26, 2013
Alaska likes to lead – in caring for our people and environment, in growing our economy, in innovation and big ideas.
But unfortunately, we also lead in some terrible statistics. Domestic violence and sexual assault occur in our state at epidemic rates. Governor Parnell has committed to ending this blight, and I stand with him.
Will you join us?
Will you Choose Respect?
This month, communities across Alaska will hold rallies calling for the end of this violence, and urging men, women and children to speak up and end the silence. To find a march in your community, visit http://gov.alaska.gov/parnell/priorities/public-safety/choose-respect/the-march.html.
In Anchorage, join me on Thursday, March 28, at noon. Senator Lisa Murkowski will be walking with us. Together, let’s bring light to this dark stain on our culture, and help all Alaskans to live free from fear.
Free parking will be available during the rally in the Linny Pacillo Parking Garage (on 7th Avenue between E and F Streets). We’ll walk from the Park Strip at F Street down to Town Square, where myself and others will speak to the issue and continue to raise awareness.
