UnitedHealthcare Donates $25,000 To Help Build New Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center

  • New 42,000-square-foot facility to offer more medical and dental services for children, families and seniors

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (March 8, 2012) – UnitedHealthcare has donated $25,000 to the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center (ANHC) to help build a new 42,000-square-foot medical and dental facility that will expand health care services for Anchorage residents.

ANHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center and one of the largest medical and dental providers in the state, serving as a safety-net facility for scores of Alaskans. The expanded clinic will increase the health center’s annual capacity to 25,000 patients, nearly doubling the volume of patients who can receive care.

The new building, which will open in September, will increase the number of examination rooms from 24 to 45, double the number of dental rooms to 10, and add onsite pharmacy, lab and radiology services. Along with the facility expansion, ANHC will increase the number of physicians from eight to 12, and dentists from two to four.

“This is a significant gift from UnitedHealthcare, and we appreciate this support,” said Jon Zasada, ANHC’s development and marketing director. “We have been extremely fortunate with our capital campaign, but the project would not become a reality without this level of generosity from business leaders in our community.”

The $28.3 million project is funded by the state of Alaska ($16.1 million) and the federal government ($10.1 million), with the remaining $2.2 million being raised through corporate and private contributions such as UnitedHealthcare’s donation.

“UnitedHealthcare is committed to supporting organizations that help ensure Alaskans have access to quality care, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center and help expand their reach of services to even more residents,” said David Hansen, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual of Alaska.

UnitedHealthcare serves more than 28,000 people statewide.
