Labor Schedules March 8 Workshop for Restaurant Workers Laid Off by Chili’s Closures
JUNEAU, Alaska—The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development will provide re-employment support to restaurant workers who were laid off due to Chili’s closures, beginning with a workshop at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 at the Anchorage Midtown Job Center, 3301 Eagle Street, Room 104.
The workshop will include at least two employers who will be accepting applications on site. Attendees should come prepared for interviews.
Last Friday and over the weekend, Chili’s locations in Wasilla, Anchorage and Fairbanks were closed with no notice, leaving about 50-60 employees at each location without jobs. The Chili’s Too in Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has not been affected.
Commissioner Click Bishop directed a rapid response team in the Department’s Employment Security Division to begin providing employment and training services.
“As we work with these employees, we will provide information on unemployment insurance benefits, immediate job search assistance, career support and training services, and career assessment and counseling,” Deputy Commissioner David Stone said.
Through the Alaska Job Center Network, the department will provide outreach to affected employees in Wasilla and Fairbanks.
