Plan on an out-of-this-world evening at the Anchorage Museum's gala April 10 at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center. The theme 2010: An Art Odyssey is a nod to the museum's current "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination" exhibition, as well as the May 22 opening of the Imaginarium Discovery Center and Thomas Planetarium.
Gala guests will enjoy sumptuous food, fine wine, dancing and an auction of art created specifically for the gala by some of the state's best artists. This year's featured artists are Turid Senungetuk, jewelry; Sheary Clough Suiter, mixed media; and Carla Potter, ceramics. Special appearances include Darth Vader and his stormtroopers.
The annual gala is the Anchorage Museum's largest fundraising event, supporting the museum's educational activities, programming and exhibitions.
The Anchorage Museum is the largest museum in Alaska, and one of the top 10 most visited attractions in the state. The museum's mission is to share and connect Alaska with the world through art, history and science.
Winter hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, closed Monday. Open until 9 p.m. Fridays during "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination" exhibit. General admission is $10, $8 seniors/students/military, free for ages 17 and younger. Coming May 22: The Imaginarium Discovery Center and the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center.
