Sitnasuak Native Corporation Website; Live by GeoNorth
Anchorage, Alaska - GeoNorth, LLC, a custom Information Technology solutions provider headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, continues to expand their web design and development capabilities, and their website client base. The new Sitnasauk Native Corporation website (www.snc.org), recently designed by GeoNorth from ground zero, has just gone live.
Incorporated in 1972 as a for-profit corporation, the Sitnasuak Native Corporation (SNC) is the largest of the 16 village corporations in the Bering Straits region, and is headquartered in Nome, Alaska. SNC is one of several Native corporation land owners, and also operates a number of other businesses including a home heating fuel delivery service, a real estate venture involving residential and commercial buildings, and jointly with the Bering Straits Native Corporation, owns and operates a wind generation farm. SNC also owns six professional and technical service companies throughout the United States.
Several months ago SNC contacted GeoNorth to provide design, development, and consulting services around the creation of a new company website. Initial needs assessments enabled GeoNorth to effectively and efficiently flush out the needs of SNC, and what they envisioned the website as contributing to their overall mission. GeoNorth was able to incorporate a Drupal Content Management System (CMS) to support the SNC site. Drupal is a free and open source CMS written in PHP and is used as a back-end system for many different types of websites ranging from small personal blogs to large corporate and political sites including www.whitehouse.gov and www.data.gov.uk. Drupal contains basic features common to most CMS's, including the ability to register and maintain individual user accounts within a flexible and rich permission system, create and manage menus, RSS-feeds, customize page layout, perform logging, and administer the system. Although Drupal offers a sophisticated programming interface for developers, no programming skills are necessary for basic website installation and administration. It can run on any computing platform that supports both a web server capable of running PHP version 4.3.5+ (including Apache, IIS, Lighttpd, and nginx) and a database (such as MySQL or PostgreSQL) to store content and settings.
"More and more, GeoNorth's expertise in web design and development is being recognized as leading-edge," says Bob Johnson, Sales and Marketing Manager. "Not long ago, GeoNorth was mainly known for our technical expertise in GIS (Geographic Information System) application development. Although GeoNorth has a longstanding history of launching successful, non-public facing web applications, the business community is beginning to realize GeoNorth's talent in developing public facing sites, as recent completions are drawing more and more attention, and more and more praise. Much like all of our past and current projects, GeoNorth's quality is speaking for itself. And, we are fast developing a reputation for efficient customer service in web development, honing our abilities to grasp client needs, and responding by getting it right the first time".
Established in 1994, GeoNorth (www.geonorth.com), with a second office in Portland, Oregon, specializes in state-of-the-art IT solutions for GIS, Web Design and Development, and Database Management applications, servicing clients throughout the United States and abroad. The constant pursuit of continuous improvement is part of the organization's commitment to their clients, their employees, their communities, and the economy.
