Shoppers to Experience MS March 6 at 5th Avenue Mall

Local residents who have multiple sclerosis will be asking random shoppers at the Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall (Northwestern Simon) to “Slip into the MS Costume” this Saturday, March 6, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A joint effort by the MS Society and the Alaska MS Center, volunteers will ask shoppers to walk in the shoes of someone with MS by using everyday props that double vision, challenge walking ability, and demonstrating other activities to mimic the variety of MS symptoms.  The goal of the event, part of MS Awareness Week March 8-14 which has been proclaimed nationally, is to show people the often invisible yet debilitating symptoms of a disease that is more prevalent in the Pacific Northwest than almost anywhere else on earth.  The event also comes one month before the Chapter’s major fundraising event, Walk MS, with seven walks scheduled in Alaska communities from during the months of April, May, and July.
